The Hardin County Auditor's office accepts passport applications for U.S. citizens planning international travel and may apply for their passports Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Passport photos may also be taken each day in the Auditor's office for $10 per person.

Passport Books & Cards


Applicants may apply for either a passport book or a passport card. The passport book and passport card are valid for 10 years for adults age 16 and above. The passport book and passport card are valid for 5 years for minors under age 16.

Applying for a U.S. Passport


First-Time Passport Application


In order to obtain a first-time passport, applicants must complete the Application for a U.S. Passport. Applications need to be completed with black ink. If any errors are made, do not use whiteout. Instead, draw a single line through the error and re-write the correct information in available space beside the erroneous information. Do not use whiteout.

Necessary Documents


Application for a U.S. Passport requires you to bring documents authenticating evidence of U.S. citizenship and identification. You must have one document for each; photocopies and notarized copies are not acceptable for this application process.

We have provided lists of acceptable documents for both citizenship and identification, including:
  • Primary Evidence of U.S. Citizenship
    • Previously issued, undamaged, and fully valid U.S. Passport.
    • Certificate of Citizenship
    • Certified U.S. birth certificate (must meet all of the following requirements):
      • Issued by the City, County, or State of birth. Cannot be hospital issued.
      • Lists bearer's full name, date of birth, and place of birth.
      • Lists parent(s) full names.
      • Has date filled with registrar's office (must be within one year of birth).
      • Has registrar's signature.
      • Has seal of issuing authority.
    • Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth
    • Naturalization Certificate
  • Primary Identification
    • Previously issued, undamaged U.S. passport.
    • Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship
    • Fully valid driver's license
    • Current government employee ID (city, state, or federal)
    • Current military ID (military and dependents)
